New this year for Hechler's are Country Stoves. Country
Stoves by Lennox, are an exclusive line of high quality
steel stoves and fireplace inserts.
They are only available at select Lennox dealers and are
known for their exceptionally heavy construction, clean
burn and quiet powerful blowers.
They carry a lifetime warranty. There are four models
available and can be purchased with a wide variety of
options. We have the largest model, the Canyon, hooked
up and burning in the showroom.
Blaze
King is a new line for Hechler's
and yet not. We carried this very popular line of wood stoves
in the early 1980's when Blaze King had an assembly plant
in Missouri. Some time later, Blaze King which is based
in Washington state, closed the Missouri operation. When
this happened Blaze King stoves became harder to find. Recently
we have made a decision to bring back the Blaze King line.
The size of the 1107 King model is impressive, its actually
one of the largest wood stoves that we carry. It has , a
variable speed fan and a very deep firebox for holding large
logs and getting an extended burn time. The King model has
had been tested to burn for over 40 hours on one load of
wood! Many of the Blaze King stoves have an automatic thermostat
which eliminates the need for constant adjustment of draft
controls. It automatically compensates for the natural uneven
burning of wood. We also carry the smaller Blaze King Princess
stove as well as the Blaze King fireplace inserts.

New for 2008,
Hechler's is now carrying the line of Quadrafire wood
burning stoves in steel and in cast iron. Quadra-Fire
wood stoves are available three main styles and multiple
sizes, nine models in all. The tradition of clean burn

for cooking, if you have the urge. If you're looking for
furniture, our designers and draftsman spend the most
time on our cast iron models. The bold lines of these
durable castings wrap around a Quadra-Fire engine to give
you bold performance from every load of wood.

huge Model 91 capable of heating over 3000 square

is a very popular stove. It is steel stove and comes

an ash pan or the more economical leg model without
the ash pan. The Napoleon stoves come with extra heat
shields that allow the stove to be installed closer
to the wall than many other brands. The Model 1100
and 1400 are mobile home approved. The 1100C is a

Wood Stoves |
Harman
The Harman Stove Company has two different wood stoves.
One is a steel stove, the TL300, and the other a cast
iron stove called the Oakwood.
| The
TL300 is the only steel wood stove on the market with
a top-loading feature, a large grate instead of a
small ash dump and a very large ash pans Another neat
feature is the optional cooking grill. You can open
the top loading lid and drop in the cooking grill
and have BBQ right on your wood stove. The draft from
the flue pulls the smoke out just like a Jen-Air stove!
The Oakwood is a beautiful cast iron top loading stove
with a single door and large ash pan. It can be dressed
up with the optional warming shelves and fire screen. |

*Catalytic
and Non-Catalytic
In
the mid 1980s the EPA began regulating the woodstove industry.
It has been a great benefit. It has created much more efficient
and cleaner burning stoves with less pollution and greatly
reducing the risks of chimney fires. The industry developed
new ways to re-burn the flue gasses the major
source of emissions.
One way to improve efficiency is by using the catalytic
combustor, similar to the device in your cars exhaust system.
It is looks like a ceramic honeycomb. For the catalyst to
work it must first be preheated to 400-500 degrees which
on some stoves can be monitored with a thermometer. Upon
startup, opening the bypass damper and creating a hot fire
preheats the catalyst. Once this is done, the bypass is
closed and the smoke and gasses are forced thought the catalyst
where they are re-burned before being released up the flue.
The bypass must be opened before the loading door every
time the stove is refilled. The catalytic design offers
slightly longer burn time than the non-catalytic but require
more labor in yearly inspection and cleaning. Most catalysts
are warranted for up to 6 years and at some time will need
to be replaced. Replacement catalyst costs are generally
between $100-$200. Access to the catalyst can be very easy
or more difficult depending on the model of stove.
A
second and becoming more common, is the way of re-burning
the flue gasses simply known as non-catalytic. This can
be done either with re-burn tubes in the top of the stove
or a re-burn chamber in the rear of the stove. In the tube
system, a series of hollow tubes with many small oxygen
holes in them are located in the ceiling of the stove below
the baffle. The re-burn takes place at this point in what
we refer to as secondary combustion. You can actually see
this taking place, it is quite fascinating and pretty to
watch as well as giving you more heat from the wood you
are burning. Your burn time may not be quite as long as
the catalytic stove but there is less maintenance to this
system. The other design, the re-burn chamber system, is
found in our Harman and some of the Dutchwest stoves. In
this system upon start up, you open a bypass lever sending
the gasses straight up the flue bypassing the re-burn chamber
much like the catalytic stoves. Bypassing allows the stove
to start faster while preheating the chamber to about 500
degrees, and then the bypass is closed. The gasses are then
forced through an opening at the center back of the stove
where they are re-burned in the chamber and then released
up the flue. This takes about 20 minutes upon startup. You
must open the bypass lever before refilling the stove with
wood or rearranging the fire with a poker. This method gives
the benefits of the catalytic system without the maintenance.
